Our oral surgery procedures typically last between 40 to 60 minutes, depending on the surgery.
Swelling can last from 3 to 5 days. Typically, swelling is at its worst three days following surgery and will lessen afterwards.
You will be able to open your mouth after surgery and in fact, the more you exercise your jaw, the easier your recovery.
Bleeding can occur anywhere from one to 12 hours following surgery. This depends on multiple factors- including activity following surgery, medications and what a patient eats/drinks. As long as you follow the post-operative instructions given by the surgical assistant before and after surgery, the bleeding shouldn’t last too long.
Dr. Kur usually recommends waiting 48 to 72 hours before doing any sort of strenuous activity following surgery, including exercising. This also depends on the surgery.
If you are having a procedure that requires IV sedation, there is absolutely no eating or drinking anything for 6 hours prior to your appointment. This includes water, as the stomach must be completely empty. You can take morning medications with a tiny sip of water, but consult with Dr. Kur. (see below)
Yes but only with a VERY small sip of water (just enough to get the pill down.) This also depends on which medications you are taking. Be sure to speak to Dr. Kur at a consultation (prior to the surgery) about your daily medications. If the medication can be skipped that morning and taken later in the day- sometimes Dr. Kur will advise you to do so.
Implants need to sit untouched in the jawbone for a minimum of three months. Once Dr. Kur sees the patient for the final check up of the implant, he will tell the patient that they are ready to be restored. Our office is in constant communication with the many referring dentists to help make sure the timing is right for you.
No. An implant needs time to bond and integrate with your jawbone before it is ready for a tooth. This takes approximately 3 months. In certain cases (for example a front tooth), the general dentist can fabricate a TEMPORARY tooth for the area.
When a tooth is removed, a bone graft is placed in the socket in order to preserve width and height while also promoting your own bone to fill in the site.
We use moderate IV sedation at our practice, also known as “twilight” sedation. Moderate sedation is different than general anesthetic given in a hospital. With moderate IV sedation you are conscious, so you are breathing on your own, and able to answer simple commands (such as open/close your mouth), but you will be asleep and unaware of the surgery.
Dr. Kur extracted my 4 wisdom teeth, and also gave me four implants. Not once did I have any pain after both procedures. He did an amazing job! He and his staff were extremely friendly and very informative the entire time. If you need oral surgery this is the place to go.
Dr. Kur and his staff made my experience truly wonderful. I was in such excruciating pain until I couldn’t function. They performed an emergency extraction on my wisdom tooth. I felt much better after my surgery. The office is clean and very comfortable. Obviously no one wants to have a tooth removed, however, if you need to have this procedure done, then I would definitely recommend this practice.
Dr. Kur is an amazing oral surgeon. I had implant surgery performed & I did not experience any discomfort at all. The surgery and healing process was painless. He made sure I was totally comfortable throughout the surgery. His staff was equally compassionate. Dr. Kur followed up with a phone call in the evening to make sure I was doing well. He is an excellent doctor and I would highly recommend him to anyone who is in need of oral surgery.
Dr. Kur and his staff are fantastic. Unfortunately, my son, age 6, had to have one of his molars removed. Not only did this procedure go extremely well, (and very quick) but there was no complaining of pain afterwards. I would highly recommend Dr. Kur to anyone looking for an Oral Surgeon. Great experience!
Dr. Kur was nice, comforting, and made my extractions & implants as painless as possible. The office staff was equally as pleasant, making the paperwork as effortless as possible and were very welcoming. There is also a good payment plan available if you need it.
I had a very complex oral surgery performed by Dr. Kur. I was very anxious about having the work done, but quickly relieved after speaking with Dr. Kur and his staff. I could not be more pleased with Dr. Kur. He took the time to explain everything to me in detail before performing the many steps of my treatment. Along the way, he and his staff assisted me with all my questions and concerns. I am very happy with the outcome. Dr. Kur is extremely proficient and professional and I strongly recommend him as he is “the best of the best!”

Dr. Kur is an amazing oral surgeon. He pulled one tooth and put in 2 implants. Mindful of my pain and my comfort, he reminded me of an artist enjoying his craft. As for his staff, nothing short of top notch. Professional and courteous. This is my oral surgeon forever!! As a matter of fact I am scheduled for more work in the near future.
